Brief: Text Interpretation
In response to a brief, in which I had to interpret a piece of text in any way I chose, I made an image based book that makes up a poem. I took powerful statements from different parts of the text to create the poem, then made the words from objects that relate to that sentence. For example, “Pilfered from the clothesline” is made from pegs on an empty clothesline. Due to the themes of family and friendship throughout the writing, I made all the images from objects I found in my family home. I was heavily inspired by Stefan Sagmeister typographical work and other artists of concrete poetry, when producing my publication.
The poem reads:
Knots.
The greatest show on earth.
Make only one change.
Pilfered from the clothesline.
The relationship was static.
The score was settled.
He crossed the bar soon after.
